Ecotourism: WILD, Stairway to Heaven in SIAM REAP

One of the silver linings of being stuck in a limbo of canceled flights and restrictions news is that you get the chance to wander around a new city for a little bit longer.

Thanks to that, we got the chance to discover a hidden gem in the crowded and ecotourism foodie landscape of Siam Reap.

This place has been very inspiring, maybe because the story of the owners is a really relatable one.

Lorraine and her husband, Renaud, moved to Cambodia 2 years ago, after she was overwhelmed by the crazy pace of the Parisian working style.

Their dream was to open their own small business in South East Asia, but with the intent of making a positive impact on the local community.

The outcome of their project is WILD: a cozy finger food bar, with a special menu, entirely dedicated to spring rolls!

They hired and trained local staff, guaranteeing them a safe salary and bonuses according to the profit, and even providing health insurance, something very rare in the country.

At the same time, they kept in mind the environmental impact of their business.

They use as much as they can organic and local producers, if not producing directly in their garden, composting their organic waste and cutting down 95% of the single-use plastic consumption. Also, they recycle the frying oil through local suppliers that transform it into biofuel to use for their generators.

Renaud says that, obviously, isn't a perfect business, but they are trying their best to maintain their scope.

On the back of their restaurant, decorated with taste and full of nature and colors, there is a small shop where you can buy stainless bottles and other useful items or directly donating money to NGOs with programs dedicated to the community.

We loved the colorful and friendly atmosphere, where everyone from every corner of the world was welcomed by the cheerful greetings of Lorraine. This is the kind of story we love to hear when business is inclusive, sustainable, and full of enthusiasm.

So, if you find yourself stuck in Cambodia, in Siam Reap, or you are planning an escape for the future, come to check this place.

You will not regret it!
